A Day at the Races

A Day at the Races

Planning a day at the races, but not sure what to wear?  The horse racing is the perfect opportunity to show off your own personality and add a bit of style and colour to your outfit, and of course, a great excuse to get dressed up. So here at Cheaney we’ve picked out our best shoes that’ll have you winning the style stakes.

Grand National – 8th April

With no strict official dress code, the Grand National gives you the perfect chance to mix it up, literally. Try switching around your jacket and trouser colour combinations to create that modern race day look this Spring.  A few variations could be a navy tweed jacket with grey, beige or tan trousers. or Alternatively, a jacket in a light shade of cream or beige with navy blue trousers (or vice versa). Complete your outfit with a pair of  penny loafers, a classic choice for spring/summer and helping you achieve that effortlessly elegant look.

The shades of your attire will determine which colour to opt for shoe wise. For example, with the below colour scheme using various shades of beige and pastel tones we would recommend the Hadley Penny Loafer in Burnished Dark Leaf Calf Leather, this colour combination isn’t classically matched but creates a bolder statement.

If you’ve chosen a grey check suit, don’t play it safe with a pair of black or brown oxfords, stand out from the crowd and inject some colour into your outfit with Berkeley, our whole cut oxford. Available in a selection of colours, however, our favourite has to be between the aubergine Calf Leather or blue calf leather. Add the finishing touch to your outfit by ensuring your tie matches your shoes.

The whole cut pattern is one of the most rare and expensive patterns because of the leather consumption involved in its manufacture. It is the simplest and cleanest form of welted shoe and demands the finest leather with no defects or blemishes.

Royal Ascot – 20th – 24th June

Given the prestige of the Royal Ascot, the code of dress is particularly strict. For those of you sticking to a traditional grey or black three piece suit, our selection of black Oxford shoes from our City Collection are perfect for you.

Both of these styles are also available with a Dainite sole. It looks like leather from anywhere but beneath, where it features a subtle rubber base to help keep your footing.

Bring your A game to the races by opting for a navy suit, stylish and versatile, a blue slim fit suit is a winning outfit.

Navy suits coordinate well with most shoe colours. However, in our view we think they go best with a darker shade of brown and our Holyrood double strap monks in Bronzed Espresso Calf Leather are the perfect match.

Part of the Cheaney “Imperial” collection, Holyrood is an elegant double silver buckle monk strap shoe with stitched cap

Add the finishing touch to your outfit with our range of matching belts, all handmade in England.
