Top quality

I received my 3rd pair of Cheaney’s today and as usual, they fit so well, straight out the box. Beautifully made and packaged. Delivery was very quick. I have Burgundy pair of Cairngorms, a pair of Pennine boots and now these Cairngorms in black. After wearing for a bit, they fit like slippers and frel as if they will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance

Complete Junk

I have bought only Cheaney for close to two decades and I am on Google praising their Product By comparison these Veldtschoen of which I have two pairs in Black and Brown have been completely disappointing with the Heels becoming detached on both pairs . Cheaney to give them their due have replaced the Heels on both pairs only for them to again become detached . I am now sat with £800 worth of shoes that are fit only for the dustbin . Its quite incredible . The problem as I see it is the bought in soles which are attached to the uppers , these are clearly unfit for the purpose . It genuinely upsets me to leave such a negative review but I am absolutely seething at the situation I find myself in .

Great shoes - shame about the laces

These shoes are day-long comfy straight out of the box. Absolutely fantastic. BUT after the second time of wearing the shoes the laces are looking like they've been tied every day for a year. They're frayed and the outer sheath is damaged enough to show the inner core of the laces. And there were no spares provided in the box, unlike another Northamptonshire brand of shoes that I regularly wear. Huge disappointment and not what I would expect from a company that prides itself on its quality standards

Great Shoes

Classic style and comfortable from day 1, I only wish I could justify getting a pair in brown.

Black veldtschoen

In the last 30 years have bought five pairs of Cheaney veldtschoen, which were at one point the only veldtschoen available. Grenson offer the Victor. Grenson did not make the sale because their website would not allow it. So, Grenson lost on I.T. & Cheaney won. I have been looking for black ones for 30 years - better late than never. Heavy walking shoes do not get better than these - glad I bought them.

Derby

The Derby, also known as a Gibson, is considered a little more casual than an Oxford or classic Brogue. That being said, the style is extremely versatile, with Derby's often being paired with suits, chinos or jeans, making them a multifunctional investment piece. They are described as having an open lacing system and, as such, are suitable for a wide foot or a foot with a high in-step.

Last 4436
Last 4436

At over 75 years old, the 4436 is Cheaney's longest running last. It has a distinctive, vintage look and offers a generous fit allowing for the bellows tongue and a slightly heavier sock and is, generally speaking, shorter in the toe box area.

FIT ADVICE

  • Shorter in the toe box then other lasts, but still stay true to size
  • Generous in the width, will look quite heavy

Veldtschoen Construction
Veldtschoen Construction

A Veldtschoen shoe contains the same components as a Goodyear welted shoe. However the leather upper is turned out and stitched above the welt rather than the leather upper being wrapped underneath and stitched beneath the welt. This construction method provides more water resistance.

Bellows Tongue
Bellows Tongue

A wide folding tongue of a shoe or boot which is attached at the sides of the uppers to make the shoe much more water resistant

Commando Rubber Sole
Commando Rubber Sole

Adopted by the British Army in the 1940's the Commando Sole is highly resistant to wear and tremendous non-slip capacity. Made by Itshide the cleated design and centre star medallions provide great traction and cushioning. Perfect sole for the great outdoors, shock absorbing properties allows exploring the most rugged of terrains less challenging.

Grain Leather

Country grain is achieved by embossing our classic calf leather to create the grain effect, otherwise known as pebble grain. Revered for disguising creases and imperfections, this leather lends itself perfectly to our countrywear collection due to its resilience. Country grain also softens up very well around the foot, resulting in a shoe that you can wear all day with comfort.
