Good fit

Normally I have a lot of problems getting shoe sizing right, but I got the wide version and they fit well — with a bit of wearing in. I'll purchase another pair

A great heavy duty quality shoe

I got a pair of these direct. I already have a pair of the Pennine boots and they are superb. Lovely wide fitting, with great quality. Easy to find on website, ordering process went very smoothly and they were delivered quickly. The shoes themselves, once the initial wearing period is over, fit like slippers, very well made. These shoes will last a lifetime, if looked after. Well worth the money.

Sturdy quality shoe

Bought these in the London shop, amazing quality, very hard wearing, ideal for walking and Country wear.
I have three pairs of Cheaney shoes, and know they will last my lifetime.

Cairngorm II

I took the risk of ordering these shoes online and couldn't be more happy with them. Wonderful craftsmanship and perfect fit right out of the box. Looking forward to many years of use. Only sad thing is that there's no retailer in Berlin for cheaney shoes. Means I might have to take the risk again and order online. I probably will..

5 stars if laces were longer

Bought them at the Coal Drops Yard shop. Dealt with Louise, who was very helpful and professional. The shoes themselves are great, but the laces, really are too short, they are barely long enough to knot and not tidily. Considering the price of the shoes, a longer pair of laces would have really helped. That being said, I have since changed the laces. Before wearing them outside for the first time, I gave them a good shine. They are so comfortable, built like a tank whilst also being smart casual. You can wear these on the hard streets of London or in the countryside. Look after them and they will serve you well for years to come. Cheaney, don't forget, longer laces..............

Cairngorm 2

Beautiful colour, built like a tank, 4436 last makes for a handsome perennial design. Shape and proportions appear just right to me. Shoelaces are indeed too short so had to change them. G fitting is not that wide at all, unlike the Trickers Bourton, quite true to size. Leather is soft, comfortable from the first wear. Look forward to a lifetime of use.

Built like a brick, look amazing

I recently purchased the Stour C, a similar model which appears to be out of production now.

I echo the comment on the short-ish laces (just 2" longer is all that's required) but otherwise I love the construction and the features.

The shoes feel like they're built like a brick, but surprisingly don't weigh as much as one. They've got an ageless vintage look that still looks great.

I can't wait to trudge through city rain puddles and snow in these... but I love them too much to subject them to harsh terrain and mud, although I'm sure they'd cope just fine!

One of life’s essentials

These are such great shoes I love them. If I was going to identify anything to improve: 1 Longer shoelaces (I end up buying long leather laces) 2 A longer tongue so it comes above the laces. This woudd be my perfect shoe

My Lifetime Favourite Shoes

I am on my second pair of these shoes since 1990. The first pair withstood three full field seasons of high Alpine geological fieldwork including heavy damage running down screes. They polished up beautifully even after this abuse. My second pair I have had for eight years, are on their second set of soles and they are moulded to my feet, they still look really nice. The leather interior linings are holding up extremely well.

Derby

The Derby, also known as a Gibson, is considered a little more casual than an Oxford or classic Brogue. That being said, the style is extremely versatile, with Derby's often being paired with suits, chinos or jeans, making them a multifunctional investment piece. They are described as having an open lacing system and, as such, are suitable for a wide foot or a foot with a high in-step.

Last 4436
Last 4436

At over 75 years old, the 4436 is Cheaney's longest running last. It has a distinctive, vintage look and offers a generous fit allowing for the bellows tongue and a slightly heavier sock and is, generally speaking, shorter in the toe box area.

FIT ADVICE

  • Shorter in the toe box then other lasts, but still stay true to size
  • Generous in the width, will look quite heavy

Veldtschoen Construction
Veldtschoen Construction

A Veldtschoen shoe contains the same components as a Goodyear welted shoe. However the leather upper is turned out and stitched above the welt rather than the leather upper being wrapped underneath and stitched beneath the welt. This construction method provides more water resistance.

Bellows Tongue
Bellows Tongue

A wide folding tongue of a shoe or boot which is attached at the sides of the uppers to make the shoe much more water resistant

Commando Rubber Sole
Commando Rubber Sole

Adopted by the British Army in the 1940's the Commando Sole is highly resistant to wear and tremendous non-slip capacity. Made by Itshide the cleated design and centre star medallions provide great traction and cushioning. Perfect sole for the great outdoors, shock absorbing properties allows exploring the most rugged of terrains less challenging.

Grain Leather

Country grain is achieved by embossing our classic calf leather to create the grain effect, otherwise known as pebble grain. Revered for disguising creases and imperfections, this leather lends itself perfectly to our countrywear collection due to its resilience. Country grain also softens up very well around the foot, resulting in a shoe that you can wear all day with comfort.
