Brighstone R Derby in Sandstone Waxy Kudu

  • £445

Brighstone showcases the remarkable character of kudu leather. Each hide bears the natural markings of its wild heritage, creating individual variations impossible to replicate in mass production. The sandstone tone deepens beautifully with age while Goodyear welting and Dainite sole provide the structural integrity expected from British shoemaking. Even better in the flesh

Have several pairs on Cheaney Gibson and find the fit exactly to my liking. First pair of Derby and the kudu leather got my attention. Just arrived and they fit perfectly and are spectacular. Pair of jeans sets them off perfectly. The pictures don’t do them justice. Absolutely delighted. Usual Cheaney quality. Love them

Cheaney Shoes Ltd
Derby

The Derby, also known as a Gibson, is considered a little more casual than an Oxford or classic Brogue. That being said, the style is extremely versatile, with Derby's often being paired with suits, chinos or jeans, making them a multifunctional investment piece. They are described as having an open lacing system and, as such, are suitable for a wide foot or a foot with a high in-step.

Waxy Kudu

Its unique tannage involves shrinking the hide by up to 25% to tighten its fiber structure, enhancing its strength and impermeability. The leather is heavily waxed during tanning, resulting in a water resistant product with a stubble-like texture that reveals depth with every crease.

Kudu is a species of antelope native to the African Savannah. As it is a wild animal, kudu leather is naturally imperfect and has scars and scuffs as a result of life in a wild environment. Incredibly soft to the touch yet just as strong as other leathers, kudu is a fairly low-maintenance leather and creates less wastage than other leathers due to the inclusion of imperfections.
