The welt refers to a strip of leather that is sewn around the base perimeter of the upper and becomes the integral link between the top of the shoe and its sole. Cork bottom filler is used as a footbed in the construction of Goodyear welted footwear. It is flexible, water-resistant, lightweight, insulative, shock-absorbing and most importantly, comfortable as it moulds to the contours of the wearer’s foot.
The natural fabric used for the bags are composed of regenerated material, comprising of around 60% virgin cotton and 20% regenerated cotton. In addition, the draw string is 100% organic cotton. The paper used to cover the boxes and the interior lining paper of the cardboard are 100% recycled fibre. Only water-based dyes and non-toxic adhesives are added, all materials are 100% recyclable after use.

The cleated tread design known as 'Genepy' is very similar to the Commando but alternatively is made from a very lightweight rubber-like compound named by Vibram as 'Vi-Lite'.
