Any boot with its facings stitched on top of the vamp can be classified as a derby. Also known as 'open lacing', this style is of particular benefit to people with higher insteps and can be found on a variety of styles. Derbies are generally seen as more casual and offer an easy way to transition to casual outfits.
At over 75 years old, the 4436 is Cheaney's longest running last. It has a distinctive, vintage look and offers a generous fit allowing for the bellows tongue and a slightly heavier sock and is, generally speaking, shorter in the toe box area.
FIT ADVICE

A Veldtschoen shoe contains the same components as a Goodyear welted shoe. However the leather upper is turned out and stitched above the welt rather than the leather upper being wrapped underneath and stitched beneath the welt. This construction method provides more water resistance.
A wide folding tongue of a shoe or boot which is attached at the sides of the uppers to make the shoe much more water resistant.
Adopted by the British Army in the 1940's the Commando Sole is highly resistant to wear and tremendous non-slip capacity. Made by Itshide the cleated design and centre star medallions provide great traction and cushioning. Perfect sole for the great outdoors, shock absorbing properties allows exploring the most rugged of terrains less challenging.
